Millions of plastic bottles are thrown away every day. We give them a second life — as designer lighting.
At Studio Loups, we believe that sustainability and design do not have to be a compromise. Our lamps are made from recycled PET plastic, the same material as your water bottle. But instead of ending up in a landfill, it is transformed into sculptural lighting that elevates any space.
The problem: plastic everywhere
The Netherlands is recycling more and more, but a large part of our plastic still does not get a second life. PET bottles are technically perfectly recyclable, but the reality is that many of them are incinerated or end up in the environment. We wanted to change that — not with a boring story about waste, but with something you want to have in your home.
From raw material to filament
The process begins with sorted PET waste. This is cleaned, ground into flakes, and then melted down into filament — the thin thread our 3D printers use. This filament has the same quality as new material, but with a fraction of the ecological footprint.
The numbers speak for themselves:
- Up to 75% less CO₂ emissions compared to new plastic
- Each lamp contains the equivalent of ±15 PET bottles
- No excess material — 3D printing is virtually waste-free
Why 3D printing?
Traditional production methods require molds, large factories, and minimum orders of thousands of units. 3D printing reverses that model:
- No molds needed — every design can be produced directly
- Zero waste — material is only used where it is needed
- Local production — our lamps are printed in the Netherlands, no long transport lines
- Design freedom — organic, sculptural forms that would be impossible with traditional techniques
This means we can create designs you won't find anywhere else. The layer structure of the 3D printing process is not something we hide — it is the design. It gives each lamp a unique texture that beautifully filters and diffuses light.
Design with a story
Our collection is inspired by organic forms from nature. The Mina, for example, has the soft, flowing lines of a cocoon. The warm glow shining through the printed layers creates an atmosphere that you simply cannot achieve with a standard lamp.
And that's precisely the point: a sustainable product doesn't have to look "sustainable." No burlap, no unfinished wood, no earthy palette. Our lamps are statement pieces that also happen to tell the right story.
